Benefits and Values

Central workplace

The office is located at the Schwedenplatz, in Vienna’s city centre, with the subway lines U1 and U4 and a well-frequented tramway and bus station in front of our doorstep. Having to choose from the countless lunch options is our location’s biggest challenge!

Working hours and home office

We work flexible hours with a core time from 10am to 3pm (on Fridays until 1pm). Hybrid work is possible with the option to work from home up to 50%. Our office’s panoramic view is worth the travel though!

IT Equipment

EFA provides options of phone, computer and other work devices: Our employees can use their preferred hard- and software (MacOS or Windows, iOS or Android). Because working is easier when using your favourite equipment!

August in Alpbach

The annual European Forum Alpbach event takes place in the Tyrolean Alps. Since there are around 4,000 participants every year, we need all hands on deck: For two weeks, the entire organisational team moves to the tiny mountain village Alpbach! It is the most exciting time of our year, with plenty of opportunities to connect with decision-makers from all over Europe.

During this time in late summer, the staff is lodged in apartments and has the option to each bring a partner or close friend and their children. Childcare will be provided on site, the accompanying person receives a full EFA event ticket.

Culture and Diversity

The people who work for the European Forum Alpbach are united by a firm belief in Europe. Our common trust and our contribution to deepen the European values guide our every-day activities and interactions. This purpose-driven environment and the impact of the annual event cross political borders and create mutual understanding.

The organisation is characterised by flat hierarchies and short ways of communication: Employees work in small units (four to nine people), each led by a head that directly reports to the secretary general. We aim for a maximum of transparency and encourage bottom-up feedback.

The internationality of the annual event is also represented in our organisational team: Staff members come from seven countries and speak over 15 different languages. Team meetings are held in German or English, depending on the needs and capabilities of the attendees.

The EFA team’s gender ratio is 22 female and 12 male employees (as of November 2023).

Benefits and Opportunities

The European Forum Alpbach offers an inspiring atmosphere for people who are passionate about solving the challenges of our time. The vibrant ecosystem of decision-makers from politics, business, science, culture and civil society at the annual event creates strong networks for future opportunities. EFA employees are invited to get to know different fields of work by changing their position within the team, if desired and suitable.

Additional benefits include:

  • subsidy of the Austrian “Klimaticket” (730€)
  • monthly content-breakfasts, curated by EFA’s track managers
  • in-house training for the entire team on a quarterly basis
  • two team retreats per year
  • education budget for individual professional development
  • bike leasing with JobRad.at.
