Under the annual theme “RECHARGE EUROPE”, the European Forum Alpbach (EFA25) takes place from 16 to 29 August 2025 in the village of Alpbach, Tyrol.
Tickets for the European Forum Alpbach 2025 are now available. For two weeks, the Tyrolean mountain village of Alpbach will once again become an international meeting place for people who are committed to shaping Europe’s future. “In the midst of global crises, technological shifts and social tensions, the European Forum Alpbach stands more than ever as a place where Europe's future is shaped – interdisciplinary, cross-generational, and politically relevant. We go beyond discussion, offering direction and concrete impetus for a more united, self-reliant, and competitive Europe.”, EFA President Othmar Karas says. To mark the Forum’s 80th anniversary, this year’s theme “RECHARGE EUROPE” is a call to reimagine Europe with new energy: courageously, collaboratively and with a clear vision for the future. The complete programme will be published in mid-May.
A number of prominent speakers have already been announced. The Forum aims to bring together top-level decisionmakers, innovative thinkers from science and research, and a new generation of engaged young people.
Confirmed participants include Austria’s Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen, Austria's Federal Chancellor Christian Stocker, Foreign Minister Beate Meinl-Reisinger and several EU Commissioners, such as Maria Luís Albuquerque (Financial Markets and the Saving and Investments Union), Magnus Brunner (Home Affairs and Migration) and Costas Kadis (Fisheries and Oceans).
Katarina Barley (Vice-President of the European Parliament) and Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann (Chair of the European Parliament’s Defence Committee) represent strong voices of the EU Parliament. The Forum will also welcome leading figures from academia and civil society, such as Julia Ebner
(researcher and investigative journalist), Colombe Cahen-Salvador (political activist and co-founder of the Atlas Movement), Mark Leonard (Director of the European Council on Foreign Relations) and Sigrid Stagl (climate economist).
Together with more than 4,000 expected participants, these speakers will discuss three of the most pressing challenges of our time: How can Europe’s defence be organised? How can Europe sustain its global competitiveness? And how can Europe’s future be financed in the long term? These questions will be addressed in the Forum’s four thematic tracks.
The EFA25 programme is structured around four overarching thematic tracks: The Security Track focuses on Europe’s strategic autonomy in an increasingly fragmented world order. The Finance and Economy Track examines competitiveness by asking how Europe can again take the lead in promoting technology and innovation. The Climate Track explores how to respond to the climate crisis, Europe’s role in the global energy transition and the economic transformation needed. Finally, the Democracy and the Rule of Law Track addresses democratic resilience, the rule of law, and social cohesion – particularly in the digital age.
In 2025, the Forum once again follows a clear structure based on five distinct programme modules. The Euregio Days (16 – 19 August) open the event by bringing together the European Region Tyrol-South Tyrol-Trentino to tackle global challenges in competitiveness and regional development as well as to strengthen cross-border cooperation and highlight regional best practices. This is followed by the Alpbach Seminars (17 – 23 August), where around 500 scholarship holders from across the globe engage in interdisciplinary dialogue with leading experts. The Lab Days (21 – 23 August) focus on concrete issues, with interdisciplinary teams developing solutions to key future challenges.
During the Europe in the World Days (23 – 26 August), Europe’s global role takes centre stage, with input from leading figures in politics, business, science and culture. The Forum concludes with the Austria in Europe Days (26 – 29 August), which address internal European challenges and highlight the role of Austria and the other EU member states.
